The first full day of our holiday part 2 was very stimulating and included a long walk on the north bank of the Thames. First of all we visited the Dazzle ship, the HMS President, which had a handy pop up bar on the top deck. After a cool drink with a fabulous view of the city we carried on walking along the riverbank towards Tower bridge. Our plan was to go and see the installation of carefully crafted poppies displayed in the moat surrounding the Tower of London. Of course it was very busy with crowds of tourists swamping that area, but we still got a good view of the whole thing. With the poppies all around the medieval building it did look very haunting, as if the castle was seeping blood, serving as a vivid reminder of the First world war, and also an interesting glimpse into the gory history of the Tower itself.
The sunny day and the highly coloured foliage did however give the tower a slight feeling of being a bit like a posh medieval hotel.
